Stories Behind the Stars European Theater of Operations Director Scott Rayl let me know about an essay contest sponsored by the American Battle Monuments Foundation. It is perfect for our Stories Behind the Stars volunteers.
There are three separate contests for ages 11-12, 13-15, and 16-18. First prizes are as high as $10,000. One of the topics is to write about Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943.
There are a handful of Stories Behind the Stars volunteers who are in this age range. In addition, there are hundreds of volunteers who have children or grandchildren who can qualify for this scholarship. This could be an excellent opportunity for you to mentor a young family member in a subject you are very familiar with.
The essay deadline in May 31, 2023.
