50 Days to record 1,000 Pearl Harbor fallen stories

In July, the first month of our project, we had less than 40 volunteers writing stories of the Pearl Harbor fallen with 2,335 names to complete.

With seven weeks to go until Pearl Harbor Day we have nearly 120 volunteers involved with writing stories, editing stories, and enhancing photos.

We have about 300 non USS Arizona names that are still unassigned out of 1,158.

We have stories completed of all 1,177 USS Arizona names thanks to the early work of our volunteers and the contributions of the USS Arizona Mall Memorial (AMM). Our editors have been copying these over to the Together We Served platform. There are about 700 left to go.

So combined with have 1,000 stories to still add to have a story for every Pearl Harbor fallen.

While it is still entirely possible that our existing volunteers can complete these remaining stories over the next 50 days, we welcome more people to help us get to the goal line.

Can you help with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to forever remember the Pearl Harbor fallen?

If you haven’t seen it yet, we have created a webpage for Pearl Harbor that includes links to some of the stories already completed.

The stories you write will be available for anyone to read at any gravesite or memorial via a soon-to-be released smartphone app. The USS Arizona Memorial alone has nearly 2 million visitors every year. You'll be helping us make news just in time for the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

To find out more about joining with this project email don@storiesbehindthestars.org.

It only takes 2-3 hours to research and write a name from scratch or 30-60 minutes to edit and copy over a USS Arizona story. All help is appreciated.
