Largest disaster in Coast Guard history - every fallen has a story

During World War II an explosion on the ammunition ship USS Serpens, off the coast of Guadalcanal claimed the lives of 250 servicemen. Many are buried at Arlington National Cemetery and all their names are listed on a grave marker located at the northeast corner of Section 34.

Thanks to Stories Behind the Stars volunteers, each of these fallen now have a story that can be read at the grave marker.

This video shows how anyone can read the stories of each of the USS Serpens fallen.

This is the first time in the history of Arlington National Cemetery that the general public has everything needed to identify details about all of the 8,700 WWII fallen buried there.
